The creature is associated with the four elements, governed their energies and qualities, and is ruled by the feminine or masculine aspect of divinity. Fire and air are masculine; earth and water, feminine. The dragon is the gatekeeper to otherworlds and the guardian of wealth, representing the supernatural forces which guard the great treasures and secrets of the universe. The Celts believed the dragon was a benevolent denizen of caves, the inner earth and lakes.
